7.2% of American Adults Claim LGBTQ Identities

A recent Gallup Poll found that a massive 7.2% of American adults now identify as LGBTQ – double the number from 10 years ago.

According to Gallup, the 2022 figure of 7.2% represents a slight rise from 2021, where it was 7.1%. Overall, 86% of Americans surveyed still identified as heterosexual, while 7% declined to answer.

The poll found that younger generations were more likely to classify themselves as LGBTQ, with Gen Z at nearly a fifth (19.7%) and Millennials at 11.2%. Results were 3.3% or less for older generations.
